APPERLEY FOOTBALL CLUB
The club shares a close link with the
cricket club as the players who have starred for the cricket club have tended to
be the best football players as well. There is currently only a few who
play both as some who are too old or just too wise to play football on a Sunday
Morning. It has been a village based side and without being, Royston
Vasey-ish, we would like to keep it that way. No strangers please!
The club play in the C & G Sunday League Division
2 after being relegated (who were they missing last year???? no, not Nick
Stacey!) last year after
working their way through the divisions (mainly through clubs leaving and
finishing 3rd or 4th) but did manage to win their only cup when they defeated
their local rivals, Tewkesbury YMCA 2-1. (Nice!) Next year, they lost in the
final. The youth section has been reformed with local village Norton to be
called, somewhat imaginatively, the Apperley and Norton Eagles.
Contacts: Ian Coggin Captain
or Offa (as in Christ - offa and after the brick outhouse that was Willie
Offenagahue (spelling? no wonder they called him Willie O!!!) Just watch the
Rugby World Cup Final of 1991 to see what a great player he was. Match reports
will be coming soon!
Blow up the picture to see 'arold and sherm
when they were young! Any photos appreciated.
