School: How well is it doing? performance tables & Ofsted report (47 pages!! in Acrobat again) Deerhurst & Apperley School finished the year on a high note with a very busy final few weeks. The Year 5 and 6 pupils presented a very enjoyable and humorous performance of the play "Noah's Ark " to parents and friends. Sports Day was a happy affair, ending with the traditional Year 6 water race. We mustn’t forget the fantastic total of £2,000 which was raised by the school PTFA at the Village Show, held at Deerhurst in July. Many people put in a huge amount of hard work to make the day such a success. Some of the money raised will go towards more low level play equipment for the children. Good luck to the children who are moving on to senior schools in September. Happy holidays to everyone!
Deerhurst
& Apperley School are still collecting Tesco Computers for Schools
and Sainsbury’s Active Kids vouchers, so please drop any you have in to the
school as soon as possible so that they can send them off before the
deadline. Thank you.
The previous term had seen the children, teachers and a number of parents come together to look into the sue of the school grounds, with the intention of utilising some of the space for a wildlife garden areas. In the future this will hopefully incorporate a pond (safely fenced!) and wildflower meadow. In the meantime we can still enjoy the flowers that are being planted by the children during their enrichment afternoons. A visit form a fire engine was very popular, and a policeman came to talk to the school with hats that the children could try on! They learnt all about the emergency services and how to dial 999 for help. Year 2 and upwards have recently been to visit a synagogue to help develop their understanding of other faiths and cultures. Within school the value for life them this term has been "forgiveness", which is supported by a range of resources loaned by the diocese. The after school clubs are continuing and during Country Dancing the children have been learning the dances in preparation for an upcoming festival. Year 7 have been working with a netball coach and practice goes on for athletics and rounders. Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Fisher who were elected Chair and Vice Chair respectively of the PTFA at the recent AGM. Hopefully they will be able to count on plenty of support over the coming year. For more information on what is happening at the school pop over to the web-site which I didn't find but am sure is there somewhere! |
